About Us

Stewart Plank

Today, A-1 Quilting Machines, Inc., of Springfield, Missouri, manufacturer of the A-1 LongArm, have made it possible to turn a delicate, traditional hobby into a profitable hobby or business.

Stewart Plank, native of the Ozarks, saw a need to help out an old-time tradition, by becoming the owner and manufacturer of one of the first original quilting machines in the United States. Stewart utilized his mechanical background in the aircraft industry to design and manufacture truly the finest in quilting machines, the A-1 LongArm.

Stewart recognized that quilters need to purchase and rely on a high quality, long lasting machine.  Quilters need prompt service and the promise of support, long after the machine is purchased and delivered.

Stewart examined other quilting machines upon trade-ins and came to the conclusion, "The A-1 LongArm is the best machine on the market."  From that vision, Stewart continues to manufacture only quality machines for quilting businesses all over America.

A1 QUILTING MACHINE INNOVATIONS: Leading the Longarm Industry in Ergonomic Quilting Technology.

Ergo-Lift Hydraulic Lifting System

Raises and lowers the table to match your comfort level and anyone else who uses it!  A1 Quilting Machines is proud to be the innovator of the Ergo-Lift. We take pride in providing quilters with features that make their quilting day easier. Other companies have followed our lead with similar features, we remain the first.

Ergo-Grip

Fully ergonomically adjustable handles.  Remember the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears?  Longarm handles have long been a parody of this tale. Too high, too low, too straight, not straight enough and so on… Now with Ergo Grip handles you can have it your way. A1 Quilting Machines offers you the only multi-positioning handles on the market.  You can even have one going upward and one going downward.  Your choice, your comfort!  Stippling is never a problem-just position your handles all the way downward toward the needle.  Amazing! No more wrist, hand or shoulder strain!

Stitch Rite Stitch Regulator

*Stitch Rite stitch regulator is a revolution in stitching power. Our Needle Positioner not only stops needle up or needle down, it can be set to take a whole or half stitch!  Go from basting stitch to 15 SPI with the easy turn of the conveniently located controls.  We know we have many levels of quilters so we have 3 regulated stitch modes:  Normal SR, Cruise SR, Baste and there is always the variable Constant speed mode as well.  Our stitch regulator is designed to satisfy even the most discriminate quilter from either the front or back of the machine.  By the way, we didn’t forget the laser light.  It is built into both front and rear panels and is light ‘intensity’ adjustable.  *Standard on all packages except the ‘Beginnings Package’. (Needle Positioner only.)

Tracknology Wheel & Track System

Superior Smooth Wheels - No Wobbles Ever. We use anodized steel, one piece tracking for both our rails and carriage. Our revolutionary wheel and track design allows for a smooth carriage passing for precision quilting for those who demand the Best Wheel System Available.  There is NEVER a transfer of residue to your quilt with our system!

Thread Lubricator

Running thread is our business.  If we can’t give our clients the threads they like, they’ll go somewhere else.  Our nifty A1 Quilting Machine Innovation thread lubricator will let you run the 'fussy’ threads too.  Even metallic!  So go ahead, buy the pretty threads, we can handle them.

Electronics Plug and Go

We know how important it is when longarm quilting is your business.  That’s why we have designed our longarm to be maintained by you, easily.  Most of our parts are ‘plug and go’.  We know if your longarm is ‘at the shop’ you aren’t making money.  It’s us you’re going to be mad at.  We will overnight your part and you’ll be quilting tomorrow.  Just plug and go.

Upgradeable

Did you know:  All A1 Quilting Machine packages are factory ready to accept the computerized quilt system, CompuQuilter?  If computerized quilting is where you want to be, just let us know.  We have specially trained dealers to help you.

Dealers

Although they may not be an innovation of ours, the service they give is!  We know this big sewing machine is a bit 'scary'! We've professionally trained our techinicians (dealers) initially install and service your A1 Quilting Machine.  When you buy an A1 Quilting Machine your dealer will arrive at your home and install your new longarm .  Then give you instruction on everything from machine care, threading to basic quilting designs.  Your dealer is your technician and will be there for you from the early days throughout your warranty.  Your success is our success.  Ask your dealer what you can expect. from him or her.    We think you'll be very pleased. By the way, there is no extra charge for our initial dealer service.
